June: bed bug calls spike with start of travel season. Mosquitoes ramp up with humid weather. Wasps actively build nests.

July: peak bed bug season. Peak mosquito season. Peak wasp activity. Ant colonies reach maximum size.

August: bed bugs still peaking, college move-in week is the single highest day of the year for new infestations citywide.

Three factors converge: heavy summer travel brings bed bugs home from hotels and vacation rentals. Move-in season relocates infested mattresses and furniture across the city. Warm temperatures dramatically speed up the bed bug reproductive cycle — what would take 6 weeks in winter happens in 3 weeks in July.

Standing water is the source. Clogged gutters, plant saucers, kiddie pools, birdbaths, and tarp folds breed thousands of mosquitoes per week. Eliminate standing water and add a barrier spray to shaded resting areas — shrubs, fence lines, deck undersides — for a dramatic reduction in yard mosquitoes.

Yellow jackets and bald-faced hornets aggressively defend nests in mid-to-late summer. Common nest sites: under eaves, inside grills, in shed corners, and (most dangerous) in ground holes you can't see until you mow over them. Professional removal is much safer than DIY for any nest near an entry point or larger than a softball.

Ant colonies hit maximum size in July-August and forage aggressively for food and water inside homes. Cockroach populations double in summer heat. Both respond well to targeted bait programs.

Inspect luggage after every trip. Eliminate standing water weekly. Check eaves and grills for new wasp nests monthly. Keep kitchen counters clean and food sealed. Schedule a summer perimeter treatment in early June to set you up for the whole season.
